The pearls of Policastro Gulf

Length 2 days/1 night

First day:
Arrival in Palinuro (SA) in the morning. Departure from the port for an excursion, it is possible to visit the Blue Grotto that is the most extended and known cavity of the whole grottoes complex of Capo Palinuro. The name and the charm of this grotto comes from the wonderful effect produced by the blue that, apparently comes from the seabed, highlights the whole habitat making it almost unreal and suggestive. This wonderful effect happens thanks to the sun light coming from a submariner siphon. The tour will continue and will show the Sangue (Blood) Grotto whose name comes from the sinister colour of the inner walls, characterised by a striking red colour that reflects in the sea waters and makes out a red nuance. Beyond the Mammone point, in the so called Cala Fetente, there is the Sulphurous Grotto, the greatest expression of the hydrothermal phenomenon in Capo Palinuro. Its seabed and its walls emit vapours of sulphydric acids, that give at the area the typical and characteristic sulphur smell. After the sangue Grotto, there is the Monaci (Monks) Grotto: in this grotto there are very particular and characteristic stalagmites formations, that in the fantastic imaginary seem little monks enveloped in the habits. The Buondormire Bay, ancient and suggestive mermaids abode, will conclude this extraordinary tour. This is a gorge settled between the sea and the overlooking rocky wall, a place of indescribable beauty and quite hidden among the Capo Palinuro gorges. Package lunch.
Arrangement in 4 stars hotel situated in the Marina di Camerota central area. The afternoon will spent with the guide in the characteristic sea village, one of the most beautiful of the Cilento National Park. Dinner in hotel and overnight stay.

Second day:
Breakfast in hotel. transfer to Matera (PZ). Meeting with the guide and visit of the characteristic historical centre that has many public buildings of great historical value, as for example many churches (44 churches on the Maratea territory).
Transfer on the Saint Biagio Mountain for the visit of the Christ of Maratea. This statue is situated vertically on the Maratea port, and it is the second biggest statue after the one in Rio de Janeiro; it dominates all the Policastro Gulf with a landscape that takes the breathe away. Visit of the Basilica of Saint Biagio, situated opposite the Jesus Christ statue.
Lunch in restaurant. Departure to Padula. Guided visit of the Monastery founded in 1306 by  Tommaso S. Severino, and it represents the biggest architectonical complex of the South of Italy and, through a wise mixing of styles that ranges from Romanesque to Gothic, to Renaissance, to Baroque, to Rococo, gives an inimitable example of magnificence and beauty.
