Melfi Castle and Venosa

Arrival in Melfi. Entrance and guided tour of the Federiciano Castle. This building has Norman origins that nowadays is enlarged and enclosed by walls and quadrangular and pentagonal towers alternated among them, that were built by Angevins in the 1266. It will be possible to visit the National Archeological Museum in which are preserved some findings dating among VIII – IV century B.C.

Transfer to Venosa. Lunch in  typical restaurant/farm holidays.

Guided visit of Venosa, the well-known town to be the birthplace of the famous Latin poet of the “Carpe Diem”, Quinto Orazio Flacco. It will be possible to visit the Archaeological Park of Roman period that preserves a Thermal Complex of II century A.C., an impressive amphitheatre at the foundation level and some Domus. It is possible to see the SS. Trinity with attached the incomplete Church of the XII century, then walking in the Historical Centre  it is possible to visit the Saint Andrew Cathedral, many fountains and washtubs and the so-called Casa di Orazio (Horatio’s home).
